Australian Football Teams Visit Sawyers Hall

Waverley College, from New South Wales Australia visited Sawyers Hall College during their summer holiday tour and played football against our Year 11 and our Sixth form teams. Waverley is a private school for boys and the teams are touring England and Scotland and will finish their tour in Paris, France. The Year 11 match started off slowly then Sam Needham scored the first goal; straight after this magnificent goal Waverley College got the ball to Sawyers’ end and shot. Fortunately Sawyers Hall’s goal keeper made a tremendous save. Unfortunately Waverley scored an equalizing goal to make the score 1-1. George Craythorne promptly scored another great goal but quickly Waverley followed with their second and third goals. After trying very hard to get the ball to Waverley’s end, Sawyers Hall succeeded with Amit Gopeenauth and Jake Murphy scoring a goal from Amit’s outstanding corner kick in the remaining minutes, this was suddenly followed by Waverley potting one to take them 4-3 up. The final whistle went and the score was Waverley 4 - Sawyers Hall 3.
The Year 12/13 match followed and Sawyers Hall beat Waverley College 4-0. George Maher, Dan Gardener and Callum Mayne all scored goals; Callum Mayne scored a brilliant two and Jake Siggins showed great goalkeeping skills. Another person who showed great athletic skills was Cameron Sartipi.
