SKY SPORTS - LIVING FOR SPORTS
Sky Sports - Living for Sports is a initiative which aims to help young people to be the best they can, by using sport to improve self-confidence and self-esteem as well as giving an awareness of a healthy, active life-style.
Sky mentor, Mike Mullen (former World BMX Champion), ran a series of sessions for a group of Year 9 boys on Wednesday 19th November 2011 at our college.
After putting on elbow and knee pads and helmets, the boys were ready to take part in some BMX team games. The practical session ended with the students learning how to balance on the wheel of the bike. Everyone tried the stunt and managed to balance unaided from several seconds to almost half a minute!
During the workshop, Mike told the boys how he had taken up BMX
despite being unsuccessful at any other sport he'd
tried. His story inspired them to reflect on how to approach life
with a positive and determined attitude.
