After years of training at a club in Harold Hill, Kieran Franklyn of
year 8 became a jujitsu champion. On 3rd November 2003, Kieran was
awarded 1st place in a local competition. Since then, he has competed
in four other competitions, including the all day National Events
where he recently took part in the ground fighting tasks. Kieran
spent four months prior to the competition, training and preparing
for the event. He has been practising this form of martial art for
seven years and is currently working towards his black belt. At the
moment, he has a brown belt, 2nd tag which is 2 tags away from the
highest stage, black belt. Kieran joined the jujitsu classes after
being given details about it by his form tutor. Kieran believes that
with gangs around, you need to know how to protect yourself by knowing
self defence. If you would like to join a jujitsu club in your local
area or find out more about the sport, visit www.jikishin.com for
more information or talk to Kieran about it.
