During Easter 2009, 48 students from across the College were accompanied
by 5 members of staff on the annual ski trip. This year’s trip was
a bit different though as the group decided against the usual trip
to Italy and instead spent the week skiing in Stowe, Vermont.
On arriving in New York, the group spent the afternoon shopping on 5th Avenue
before eating at the Hard Rock Café in Times Square. The next day was
spent touring the sites of New York including a moving visit to Ground
Zero. Unfortunately the incessant rain revealed only the briefest of
glimpses of the Statue of Liberty.
After a long coach transfer to Vermont, the group spent the
next 5 days learning or improving their skiing. The warmer weather had
left the slopes a little patchy in places but still well covered. The
weather was changeable during the week with snow showers towards the
end of the week transforming Stowe back into the winter wonderland it
is famous for.
Progress by all skiers was excellent during the week, with
the American instructors pushing all students to improve their technique.
Everyone was able to ski the more difficult slopes on Mount Mansfield
by half way through the week with the more experienced skiers enjoying
a variety of routes through the trees and over the jumps in the fun park.
