STUDENT LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE
The second Student Leadership Conference took place at West Ham Football Stadium
on Monday 16th November 2009.
The focus of the day was on student leadership and the Senior Student Council
ably demonstrated this important quality by organising and running an extremely
polished and enjoyable event.
Rob Hull, (Senior Councillor), Charlotte Taylor, (Leader) and Max Atkinson,
(Deputy) welcomed students and staff and introduced the day, after which,
Miss Roberts led team building activities, which broke the ice and allowed
members of the conference to get to know each other.
Headteacher, Mr Stephen Capper, inspired the conference with a speech entitled
‘Building the Vision’ before students divided into four teams: Teaching
and Learning, Charities and Fundraising, Green and Community and Facilities,
each chaired by members of the Senior Student Council. The teams discussed
and summarised the vision for their particular responsibility in the college
and then focused on one area from their vision to develop an action plan
for the future.
The teams presented their ideas to the conference, voicing many valuable
suggestions for the future of Sawyers Hall College.
