INDOOR PRIMARY SCHOOL ATHLETICS
Event: Indoor Primary School Athletics
Date: 03/11/09
On the 3rd November 2009, Sawyers Hall College hosted a Year 5
and 6 Primary School Athletics Event involving four local primary schools
- St Thomas’, St Marys', St Josephs’ and Kelvedon Hatch who competed for
a place in the School Sport Partnership Indoor Athletics Final.
The event consisted of 80 children, both boys and girls, taking part in
two events each, from a selection of nine indoor athletics events. These
events included: Chest Push, Speed Bounce, Vertical Jump, Standing Long
Jump,
Standing Triple Jump, Soft Javelin, 1x1 Relay, 2x2 Relay, 4x1 Relay and
6 Lap Paarlauf. Each individual event score counted towards the school’s
final result.
A great atmosphere was generated throughout the event, with students cheering
on their peers and parents encouraging their children. All competitors
competed and demonstrated fair play and respect for each other throughout
the fantastic afternoon. The afternoon finished with the relay events,
allowing competitors from each school to be fully supported by peers and
teachers generating a good atmosphere.
After a close competition, St Josephs’ Primary School won the event by a very close 2 points over St Marys’, proving how closely matched these schools all were. St Josephs’ now qualify to participate in the Shenfield School Sports Partnership Indoor Athletics Finals at Brentwood County High School in February.
