CREATIVE WRITING WORKSHOP

To celebrate World Book Day on 4th March, local author, Peter Inson, was invited to lead Creative Writing Workshops with students from Years 7, 8 and 9

Students were encouraged to write about people or events that were important to them and here are excerpts from several pieces of writing:

‘One day was a painful one for my mother. I hardly even knew. I felt like I was floating, swimming freely in a small space, comfortable, cosy and calm. No disturbance, just the flow of the water in my ears. I was a baby, not yet born, to be held in my mother’s arms, to be laughing at my father’s jokes or to be taught in school by a bossy teacher.’ Year 7 student

‘A chilling feeling crawled up my spine - but wonderful. I could not breathe. My heart was pumping harder and harder but all of a sudden, where was I?’ Year 8 student

‘When my uncle died it was like salt to a wound. I miss the smell of his pipe and the smell of smoke, his tobacco tin clanking. The smell of pure friendship.’ Year 9 student
