Homework Policy
As a College, we recognise the fundamental importance of homework in helping students to improve their standards of academic achievement, to deepen their understanding and to reinforce independent learning skills.
Academically successful schools expect and achieve a high standard of homework from all their students. The key to achieving this, as with everything else in the College, is the partnership between College, students and parents.
Students are given a homework timetable to help them organise their work. The Form Tutor helps them with this.
Students who do homework on time and to the required standard or above will be rewarded by gaining points. Students may receive an after-College detention for not doing homework to the required standard or for being late with homework. We rely on parents’ support for this.
The obvious question is, how much homework should my child be doing this week?
The approximate total weekly hours for each year group are listed below:
Year 7 - 6-7
Year 8 - 6-8
Year 9 - 7-9
Yrs 10 & 11 - 8-10
Sixth Form Study time outside lessons is expected to be 14 hours per week for students on A level and AVCE courses and 10 hours per week for students on Intermediate GNVQ courses. |
