Key Stage Three
KS3 CURRICULUM OVERVIEW
In year 7…
We explore the nature of colour, linking techniques and knowledge to
the Impressionist painters such as Monet, Sisley and Renoir.
We then study the nature of pattern, linking knowledge and understanding to the Arts and Crafts movement and produce prints from a range of traditional and contemporary methods.
Lastly we look at the shapes and forms in the animal world and create sculptures using selected techniques from modelling, construction or carving.
In year 8...
We explore the way in which our world may be seen, through a study of Cubism
and artists such as Picasso and Braque.
We look at different viewpoints and how these can be expressed in painting.
We explore the human face and the meanings and purpose of African
and other ethnic masks.
We then create our own mask from different materials.
In year 9...
Students explore the nature and meaning of ‘Surrealism’ by studying artists
such as Magritte and Salvador Dali.
They create their own ‘surreal paintings’ using simple objects that are
changed into something else, placed in strange places or appear in different
sizes.
They learn how to make use of the surreal in the world of advertising.
These ideas are then turned into sculptures using appropriate
methods.
