BTEC First Certificate in Business (Double Award)

What are the Key Features?
This course will provide you with an enjoyable and active introduction to business issues and problems in real work situations. This qualification is designed to offer you a choice of routes into higher education and employment. It will give you a broad based introduction to your chosen career. A BTEC First Certificate in Business is equivalent to two GCSE’s at grades A*A* to CC.

How is the course taught?
The course develops key skills in:
• Communication – by presenting information and ideas through discussions, role play, writing and reading.
• Application of number – which includes gathering and processing data, representing and tackling problems and interpreting and presenting data in a practical context.
• Information Technology – using Information Technology to analyse data and present information.

How is it assessed?
You will study three units. The three units are:
1. Exploring Business Purposes Portfolio (coursework) 33.3%
2. Developing Customer Relations Portfolio (coursework) 33.3%
3. Starting a Small Business Portfolio (coursework) 33.3%

Why study this course?
The BTEC First in Business is for students who wish to take an initial qualification and follow careers in one of the many areas of business. It is especially suitable for anyone who enjoys taking a more active approach to their studies by investigating real businesses by conducting interviews and other methods of research independently and as part of a group. This will help you develop essential transferable skills for employment. You will also develop an understanding of the world of business and recognition of its value to local and national economy. This course is ideal for anyone who wants a broad based and practical qualification in business.

This qualification will help you to go on to higher level qualifications. You may progress to an Applied Business course if you have achieved four GCSEs at grades C or above. Or you may decide to go straight into work as a vocational qualification in Business is highly regarded by employers since the skills you learn on the course are very useful in a place of employment.
