Construction Technology and the Built Environment

What are the Key Features?
This Vocational Related Qualification is good starting point to learn about the construction industry and the built environment. Students will learn about how buildings are designed and made. From this course students will be able to develop their interests in careers as wide ranging as civil engineering, architecture, town planning, technical design and craft skills from bricklaying, carpentry, heating and electrical. The construction industry is a major employer and driver for economic growth. With all the planned development in this area of the UK it is experiencing huge problems in attracting sufficient numbers of school leavers of the right quality. Recent changes make it the right time for what is a work focused effective qualification which we will deliver in partnership with local employers. This award is suitable for use with all learners, both boys and girls. This qualification is not directed at learners who wish to follow an exclusively practical course. It is awarded as a double pass at Distinction (A*-A grade), Credit (B grade) and Pass (C grade)

How is the course taught?
Study will study this course for 10 lessons per fortnight which is two options. The emphasis will be on work related learning which will allow learners to utilise industry practise and guidance within their coursework assignments. Some of the learning will take place away from the College campus. Parents will be asked to support their son or daughter with costs of visits, and for materials used.
