Drama
For many students, drama is a new subject in year 7 and at Sawyers Hall, we carry
the subject, through all years, all the way up to A level. Drama
is a brilliant way to work in an interactive environment, to get
up on your feet and do something creative. But don’t be afraid, acting
isn’t for everyone; drama provides all students with the opportunity
to be creative in lots of different ways – as an actor, a director
and even a set designer.
The range of topics we explore at Sawyers Hall begins with drama basics, taking
you through pantomime, Greek theatre, Shakespeare, mime and other
comedy classics, plus the exploration of different plays. We are
always looking for opportunities to go and see live theatre and
many students enjoy our annual trip to see the West End hit ‘Blood
Brothers’ in year 9 – an exciting reward after four weeks of studying
the play and getting to act the parts yourself.
At GCSE and A level, it’s skills, skills, skills!
We take a real hands on approach and succeeding in the subject
is all about getting up on your feet and trying things out for
yourself – you will have the opportunity to work on scripted plays
and devise your own work, all for public performance in our drama
studios, equipped with sprung wooden floors, versatile staging
blocks and lighting gantry. And there’s more of the same at A level.
When you need a break from sitting behind the
school desk and staring at the whiteboard, drama is a real contrast
to the typical classroom lesson, giving you valuable skills for
the future in an environment that is committed to achievement….
And fun!
