Course Introduction:
This course provides students with opportunities for examining
questions and the making of judgements from a broader standpoint
than that of a single discipline.
General Studies complements all other subjects
studied at A Level and enhances skills which will help you do better
in these subjects. It helps you develop your thinking, gives you
a better understanding of the modern world, making you an all round
more informed person. It can also contribute points to gain entrance
to university.
Students will study General Studies in Yr 12 with
most students continuing to the full A level in Year 13. There
will be three timetabled lessons a fortnight for both Yr 12 and
Yr 13.
The course studied is designed to encourage students
to:
• Explore a full range of issues in five main
areas: Science and Technology, Society and Politics, Arts and Media,
Industry and Commerce and Beliefs and Values. This means you will
be covering anything from nuclear weapons to changing the UK voting
system and equal opportunities. A chance to really get to grips
