Course Introduction:
This course provides students with:

Geography helps with information technology; it has a status as an ‘A’ Level subject welcomed by universities and receives good examination results nationally. It offers a range of career prospects and helps to develop an awareness of and also locate environmental issues.

The course studied is designed to encourage students to:
• Develop a range of transferable skills such as decision making, research, use of data & report writing, it also helps with skills in information technology
• Work towards a career in Earth Science, Engineering, Business Management, Housing, Marketing, Architecture, Surveying, Journalism, Law, Education and many more.

Entry Requirements:
To succeed in this course students will need to have attained:
GCSE Grade B at least in Geography

AS Level (Year 12)
Unit 1
• River environments
• Coastal environments
• Cold environments
• Hot arid and semi-arid environments
AS 50% A2 25%

Unit 2
• Managing urban change
• Managing rural change
• The energy issue
• The growth of tourism

AS 50% A2 25%

A2 Level (Year 13)
Unit 3 Global Issues
Students study 3 units from a choice of 6 covering economic and environmental issues. Units currently being studied are:

1. Ecosystems and their Management
2. Globalisation
3. Development and Inequality

A2 30%

Unit 4 Geographical Skills
Although assessed by examination, this unit requires experience of preparing and carrying out of fieldwork, and the statistical analysis of data, which can only be learnt when carrying out fieldwork investigations. Students will gain practical experience on a residential trip in both Year 12 and 13. In recent years, this had included visits to Pembrokeshire, The Yorkshire Dales and The Chilterns.
