Course Introduction:
This course provides students with
Students develop a critical understanding of past events through examining change, continuity, similarity and difference in various societies. This is through analysis, interpretation, discussion, written work, and independent study using a variety of resources.

The course studied is designed to encourage students to:
• In this course students are encouraged to explore the nature of the discipline of History through four units, examining the theme of ‘Divided Society: Race & Religion’ from different perspectives.
• Candidates explore the theoretical and methodological issues behind the study of History before applying them to topics.
• At AS, students study theories of historical explanation and the role of sources in enquiry. At A2 they look at interpretations and significance.
• Individuals, societies, events, developments and issues are studied in broad historical content along with continuity and change. The examination of social, cultural, religious & ethnic diversity also takes place.

Entry Requirements:
To succeed in this course students will need to have attained:
GCSE Grade B in History

AS Level (Year 12)

Unit 1 Tudor Finale: The reign of Elizabeth I 1558-1603

Unit 2 Race & American Society 1865 – 1970’s

A2 Level (Year 13)

Unit 3 Debates about the Holocaust
