French and Spanish

Although a relatively small department, it is fair to say that the Modern Foreign Languages department at Sawyers Hall College has a big impact on student life. All students have the opportunity to study both French and Spanish in depth throughout their time at the college. However, we can also offer some teaching in German, Italian, Japanese and Russian!

Trips abroad to France, Spain and other Spanish speaking countries run regularly, and we are always looking to expand our programme of educational visits.

The department is well-resourced and all lessons are taught and supported by native or near-speakers. We have a variety of technology available to us, and we are looking to expand this area still further with the installation of a brand new language laboratory. We also take our teaching ‘on the road’ and we are always seeking to develop links with our feeder primary schools, local secondary schools and more recently, schools abroad.

Currently we offer qualifications in GCSE, AS and A2 French and Spanish, but we are hoping to develop our range of courses – keep watching this space for more information. We are passionate about our subject and proud of the opportunities that we can offer students at the college.
