Modern Foreign Languages- Key Stage 3 (Years 7, 8 and 9)
Modern Foreign Languages have an important place in the curriculum
and are a compulsory subject throughout Key Stage 3.
Our aims are to provide every student with the opportunity to develop
their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills whilst learning
important topic based vocabulary for both French and Spanish. Students
work individually, in pairs and in groups and the emphasis is very
much on communicating whilst having fun throughout the three years.
Students are assessed every term and awarded a level of attainment
based upon the National Curriculum scale.
Currently all Year 7 students receive six hours per fortnight of
Spanish lessons. In Years 8 and 9 the six hours are split equally
between French and Spanish. We are presently considering whether
Spanish will remain the principal language or whether we will rotate
between French and Spanish on an annual basis.

The department also provides a number of extra curricular activities, trips and
visits, and students are encouraged to become involved as much
as possible.
