Course Introduction:
This course provides students with a specialist qualification that
prepares students for the use of biology in the workplace. The
course offers an engaging programme, giving learners the opportunity
to acquire technical and employable skills, knowledge and understanding.
The course studied is designed to provide specialist work-related
qualifications in a range of sectors. They give learners the knowledge,
understanding and skills that they need to prepare them for employment.
The qualifications also provide career development opportunities.
Entry Requirements:
To succeed in this course students will need to have attained:
GSCE Grade C in at least 5 subjects including Science
Course Assessment:
Students will study 6 units, consisting of 2 core science units
and 4 specialist units.
Core Units:
Fundamentals of Science,
Working in the Science Industry
Specialist Units:
Physiology of Human Body Systems,
Physiology of Human Regulation and Reproduction,
Biochemical Techniques,
Genetics and Genetic Engineering
Assessment will include case studies, assignments
and work-based assessments, along with projects, performance observation
and time-constrained assessments where appropriate.
Students will be expected to produce and maintain
a portfolio containing evidence of practical based assignments
completed in the laboratory.
