Course Introduction:
This course is an innovative, context-led, well-resourced
advanced biology course for the 21st century. It aims to turn A-level
students into mature and effective biologists. A good biologist
should not only be armed with knowledge of biological principles,
they should also have the skills to use that knowledge in new situations.
SNAB presents the key concepts underpinning biology today, combined
with a structured approach to learning the wider skills needed
by the modern biologist.
The course studied is designed to encourage students
to:
• Engage in activities integrated throughout the course. Activities
incorporate, amongst other things, practical work, debates, discussions,
research and role-plays. Skills developed will include data analysis,
critical evaluation of information, communication and collaborative
work.
• It is suitable preparation for higher education courses in Biology
and related biological studies (such as Biochemistry or Ecology)
in other educational establishments and professional courses. Students
who do not wish to go on to higher education but do enjoy studying
Biology are also welcome.
