Science
Science at Sawyers Hall College is fun and engaging. Taught in eight well resourced
laboratories, lessons are designed to enthuse and inspire our students.
Students have the opportunity to access all areas of a broad, balanced
curriculum through practical activities, use of ICT and teacher-led
discussion. Our students enjoy and achieve and are provided with
the necessary skills to prepare them for a life in an increasingly
scientific community.
KS3
At Key Stage 3 students are given the opportunity to study a wide
range of topics from cells and the human body, to the organisation
of the
solar
system. All students follow the exploring science scheme of work,
covering four biology, four chemistry and four physics units each
year. Practical investigation forms a basis of KS3 teaching and
students
are encouraged to develop their investigative skills. KS3 science
is fun and motivating and provides a foundation for further study
at GCSE.
KS4
Students studying science at KS4 have the opportunity
to follow one of three pathways through the GCSE course. All students
are required to study core science, providing them with a foundation
for further study. In addition students will follow either triple
science, which is designed for those who wish to study science
further, additional science, which is a concept-led course developed
to meet the needs of students seeking a deeper understanding of
basic scientific ideas or additional applied science which meets
the needs of students who wish to develop their scientific understanding
through authentic, work related contexts.
