Triple Science (Three GCSEs)
Separate Sciences in Biology, Chemistry and Physics
What are the Key Features?
Some students in year 10 may study separate sciences. Students
studying separate sciences will study 21 modules in total over
a two year period.
Students will study the following modules
B1: You and Your Genes
C1: Air Quality
P1: The Earth in the Universe
B2: Keeping Healthy
C2: Material Choices
P2: Radiation and Life
B3: Life on Earth
C3: Food Matters
P3: Radioactive Materials
B4: Homeostasis
C4: Chemical Patterns
P4: Explaining Motion
B5: Growth and Development
C5: Chemicals of the Natural Environment
P5: Electrical Circuits
B6: Brain and Mind
C6: Chemical Synthesis
P6:The Wave Model of Radiation
B7: Further Biology
C7: Further Chemistry
P7: Further Physics – Observing the Universe
How is it assessed?
Students will be expected to sit nine examinations throughout year
10 and year 11. Students are expected to produce three practical
investigations. The students are expected to plan and carry out
a scientific investigation, collect and present the data in an
appropriate way and finally conclude and evaluate their findings.
The coursework is worth 33.3% of their final grade.
Why study this course?
The separate science course is a concept-led course, which is designed
to meet the needs of students seeking a deeper understanding
of basic scientific ideas. The course focuses on scientific explanations
and models, and gives students an insight into how scientists
develop a scientific understanding of ourselves and the world
we inhabit. The course will provide students with an excellent
foundation for continued study of biology, chemistry, physics
or psychology at AS level.
