Course Introduction:
The course is designed for candidates from any dance background
who wish to study Dance in depth. Students will be offered a
place following a successful audition. They will acquire experience
of choreography and performance and engage in critical thinking
about Dance. The course provides an ideal foundation for study
in higher education and for employment.
Course Outline:
Autumn Term Year 12
Introduction to Labanotation and choreography.
Anatomy and Physiology
Solo choreography and choreographic investigation
Spring Term Year 12
Solo choreography mock exam
Introduction to the set work
Analysis and appreciation of Dance
Summer Term Year 12
Unit 2 coursework essay and preparation for unit 1 exam.
Continue with analysis, labanotation and anatomy
Year 13
Introduction to Group choreography and new set
work
Continue other elements of Dance
Longer labanotation reading and performance
Learn set solo
Prepare for unit 4 and 5 exams
Entry Requirements:
To succeed in this course students will need to
have attained:
GSCE Grade B in English (preferred)
And
Audition
Course Assessment:
AS Level (Year 12)
Practical examination in Solo choreography.
A coursework essay
1hour written exam
A2 Level (Year 13)
Practical examination in Group choreography.
Performance of a set Dance.
Written exam.
