Key Stage 3
PHYSICAL EDUCATION - KEY STAGE 3 (YR 7, 8 and 9)
Physical Education has an important place in the curriculum and is a compulsory
subject throughout the school. It is a core subject of the National
Curriculum and is taught and assessed as such.
At Key Stage 3 our aims are to provide every student with the opportunity
to experience a range of sporting activities. Students work as
individuals developing their skills and techniques as well as working
in groups which enhances their teamwork and tactical appreciation.
All students at Key Stage 3 receive two hours of Physical Education
every week within the school curriculum.
There is an eight level scale of attainment in Physical Education.
Pupils will be assessed when they enter the school in September
of Year 7 to ascertain their level of performance on entry in this
subject. This assessment continues thoughout their three years
of Key stage 3.
Year 7:
Boys - rugby, football, gymnastics, OAA, tennis, cricket, athletics.
Girls - netball, hockey, gymnastics, OAA, tennis, rounders and
athletics.
Year 8:
Boys - rugby, football, gymnastics, cricket, and athletics.
Girls - netball, badminton, gymnastics, rounders and athletics.
Year 9:
Boys - rugby, football, badminton, cricket and athletics.
Girls - basketball, trampolining, gymnastics, dance, rounders and
athletics.
The department provides an extensive extra curricular timetable
offering a range of clubs. The boys are offered football, rugby,
hockey, badminton, fitness, cricket, tennis and athletics. The
girls can choose from netball, gymnastics, trampolining, cheerleading,
hockey, badminton, rounders, tennis and athletics. Pupils are encouraged
to attend these clubs and represent the school in teams.
