Course Introduction:
This course provides students with;

Development of their knowledge and skills to help understand the opportunities for, and effects of, leading a healthy lifestyle. Students will have the opportunity to further develop their understanding of physiological and biochemical aspects that optimise performance. Students will also utilise their knowledge and understanding developed during the course to improve their own personal performance s a practical performer, coach/leader or official.

The course studied is designed to encourage students to:
• Move on to further study or a career in teaching, coaching, the health /fitness / leisure industry or Physiotherapy


Entry Requirements:
To succeed in this course students will need to have attained:

GCSE Grade B in Physical Education


Course Assessment:

AS Level (Year 12)

Unit 1

Physiological and psychological factors affecting sports performance and opportunities for physical activity.

AS 60% A2 30% Examination

Unit 2

Execution of skills/techniques in two sporting roles; analysis of own performance; applying theoretical knowledge to achieve effective performance.

AS 40% A2 20% Practical

A2 Level (Year 13)

Unit 3

Physiological, biochemical & psychological factors; elite sport; development of sport from rational recreation to it’s modern day format.

A2 30% Examination

Unit 4

Optimising performance in competition, analysing and evaluating performance; correcting weakness in performance.
